Ablebook is an innovative startup focused on social entrepreneurship, dedicated to improving accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities and vulnerable groups. The Cyprus platform won the OEB 2023 Innovation Award for Social Innovation. Its mobile app offers features like an interactive map for accessible locations, a membership card for people with disabilities, and a section for children’s activities. The company targets individuals, businesses, and government agencies interested in accessibility. Challenges include accessing accurate data and securing resources. The Social Innovation Award highlights Ablebook’s commitment to promoting social inclusion. Future plans include expanding features like an online parking system and a job search section. More specifically, the Ablebook app offers the following main features to its users:
The first feature is an interactive map that allows users to select the accessible location they want to head to. While at the same time they can choose through the filters the categories of locations as well as the facilities they want. Users can see the available accessibility facilities at each location through photos that are available, as well as navigate to and contact businesses. In addition, users can report problems they face in a certain area, by contacting us directly. Finally in the application, there are over 1000 locations that show their facilities for the Disabled as well as all public parking spaces for the Disabled in Cyprus.
Second feature of the application is Ablecard. A disability-only membership card where businesses within the app provide extra benefits to people with disabilities such as discounts. In partnership with Buyway365, we developed Ablecard by providing a cashback service to people with disabilities. Through this cooperation we wish to give additional incentives to people with disabilities to go out into society. In addition, they are given the opportunity to have an immediate refund, something that will benefit them financially.
The third feature of our application is the “Kids” section. This section provides information on accessible places where children with disabilities can play sports, such as parks, gyms, sports teams/academies, nature trails and more.
