IT competencies are skills related to:
- proper use of hardware – using a mouse, keyboard, touch screen,
operating a printer, - use of software – use of word processor, graphics,
- use of applications – use of specialized software.
Digital competence enables people to take action and achieve goals, using digital technologies. In the classroom, the computer becomes a link between the student and the teacher, mobilizes work during the lesson, allows individual selection of the program, maintains concentration, increased motivation, activates curiosity.
Students with intellectual disabilities have access to computers and other electronic devices at school and in their daily lives:
- students are able to use a computer, tablet,
- look for information on the Internet, use Google browser,
- use electronic communication tools (Facebook, Messenger),
- send and receive text messages and MMS,
- use educational programs,
- look for sites on the Internet for content in line with interests,
- take photos, videos using the phone,
- search for culinary information,
- use websites to watch videos (You Tube),
- they search the Internet for products through Allegro,
- check the weather forecast
Students with intellectual disabilities need help and support in selecting and installing educational and utility applications. Students want to acquire new skills in the use of tablets, phones and applications for
educational purposes and also to develop interests and gain knowledge on a selected topic.
People with intellectual disabilities are very trusting, making them particularly vulnerable to cyberbullying. Students should be informed about the dangers of the Internet: inappropriate attitudes and behaviors of online users. Any disturbing situations should be reported to adults, teachers, guardians.
